Exothermic Powder Manufactuer and Supplier

Exothermic powder, also known as exothermic bonding, thermite (TW),
and Thermit welding, offers several advantages in the process. One of the
most significant benefits is that it creates a molecular joint between
conductors, rather than just a mechanical one. The process involves
using a starting reactant that provides the necessary energy to
initiate the reaction. This reaction occurs rapidly and safely inside a
graphite mold. The mold is specifically designed for the particular
union required, taking into account the elements to be welded and
the type of joint needed. Exothermic powder is not limited to copper
cable unions but can also be used to join various materials such as
tapes, brass metallic pieces, stainless steel, steel ground rods
covered with copper, and more. It is particularly useful for joining
dissimilar metals, making it versatile in a range of applications.
Overall, the use of Exothermic powder ensures strong and reliable
joints by creating a molecular bond between conductors, making it
a preferred choice in various industries.

Here are the features of Exothermic Welding Power:

  • Superior electrical conductivity: Exothermic Power Welding provides a higher electrical conductivity than the conductors themselves, ensuring efficient flow of current.
  • Corrosion resistance: It does not corrode oxide or degrade over time, making it resistant to galvanic coupling and ensuring long-lasting performance.
  • Withstands repeated electrical discharges: Exothermic Welding is capable of withstanding repeated electrical discharges without degradation, ensuring reliability in various electrical applications.
  • Maintains low resistance: The welding connection formed by Exothermic Welding does not increase its resistance over time, ensuring a reliable and consistent electrical connection.
  • High mechanical and squeezing resistance: It offers higher mechanical and squeezing resistance compared to the conductors themselves, providing durability and stability to the joint.
  • Permanent welding: Exothermic Welding creates a permanent welding connection, ensuring a long-lasting and trustworthy result, especially in grounding applications.
  • Versatile connections: It can be used for a variety of connections, including copper cables, tapes, and metallic pieces made of brass, stainless steel, and copper-coated steel earth rods.

Overall, Exothermic Welding offers superior electrical conductivity, corrosion resistance, durability, and versatility, making it a reliable and preferred choice for various electrical applications.

Overview of Exothermic Welding Power

In Exothermic Welding powder, aluminium dust is used to reduce the oxide of another metal, typically iron oxide. The reaction between iron(III) oxide (Fe2O3) and aluminium (Al) produces elemental iron (Fe) and aluminium oxide (Al2O3). The reaction can be represented by the equation: Fe2O3 + 2 Al → 2 Fe + Al2O3

The reaction between iron oxide and aluminium in Exothermic Welding powder produces aluminium oxide, free elemental iron, and a significant amount of heat. To ensure the stability of the reactants, they are commonly mixed with a binder to keep the mixture solid and prevent separation. A typical composition for the mixture is 5 parts iron oxide red (rust) powder to 3 parts aluminium powder by weight. When ignited at high temperatures, a strongly exothermic reaction occurs. This reaction involves reduction and oxidation processes, resulting in the formation of a white-hot mass of molten iron and a slag consisting of refractory aluminium oxide. It is important to note that the molten iron is the actual welding material, while the aluminium oxide, being less dense than the liquid iron, floats to the top of the reaction. Therefore, during the welding process, the setup must consider that the molten metal is located at the bottom of the crucible and covered by the floating slag. Overall, Exothermic Welding powder undergoes a highly exothermic reaction, generating heat and resulting in the formation of molten iron and aluminium oxide slag. The molten iron serves as the welding material, while the slag is separated and removed from the final weld joint.
