EPOXY PRIMERS
Epoxy primers are coatings applied before any paint that acts as a sealer or non-porous. It protects steel, pipes, bridges, offshore platforms, marine hulls, superstructures, and decks from corrosion. Epoxy primers are applicable for automotive, marine, and all industries as they play a role in chemical resistance and good adhesion to steel.
SUNEPOXY PRIME: Multi-purpose epoxy primer
  • Anti-corrosive primer coating over steel
  • Protective and decorative coating in laboratories, abattoirs, etc
  • Non-toxic and safe for water and food contact
  • Abrasion-resistant and durable film
  • Excellent chemical and solvent resistance
  • Strong adhesion to various surfaces
  • Waterproof and protective coating
  • Suitable for both concrete and metal substrates
  • Use a short-haired brush, airless spray, or short nap roller for application.
  • For airless spray, use a pump with a 45:1 or higher ratio, minimum 9 mm diameter hoses, and a nozzle tip size of 0.48 mm to 0.58 mm.
  • Allow 12-18 hours for curing between two coats.
SUNEPOXY ZP PRIMER: Two-component, anti-corrosive, high build, zinc phosphate epoxy primer
  • Protection of structural steel and pipes, tank exteriors, bridges, offshore platforms
  • Marine hulls, superstructures and decks, and industries like petrochemical complexes, refineries
  • Fertilizer units, power plants, smelters, cement plants, paper
  • Pulp plants, transportation industries, chemical plants, etc
  • Epoxy primer for ferrous and non-ferrous metals
  • Excellent water and corrosion resistance in  the industrially polluted and saline atmosphere
  • Good adhesion to steel, galvanised steel, and non-ferrous metals
  • It can be top-coated with alkyd, chlorinated rubber, acrylic, epoxy, and polyurethane coatings
  • Ensure the surface is clean and dry before priming
  • Mixing ratio base: hardener (by volume) as per recommended ratio by Sunanda Global
  • Stir the base and hardener separately.
  • If settling is observed in the bottom or with the help of a hand stirrer
  • Followed by a power-driven stirrer for quick homogeneous mixing
  • The application can be made by brush/ conventional spray/ by airless spray.
SUNEPOXY ZC: Anti-corrosive, zinc chromate epoxy primer
  • Protection of structural steel, pipes, tank exteriors, bridges
  • Offshore platforms, marine hulls, superstructures, decks, industries, etc
  • Epoxy primer is suitable for ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
  • Offers excellent water and corrosion resistance in polluted and saline atmospheres.
  • Exhibits good adhesion to steel, galvanised steel, and non-ferrous metals.
  • Demonstrates good flow and wetting properties.
  • Compatible for top coating with alkyd, chlorinated rubber, acrylic, epoxy, and polyurethane coatings.
  • Brush, Conventional Spray, and Airless Spray can make the application.
FAQs
What is epoxy primer coating?

Epoxy primer coating is a type of paint or sealer that contains epoxy resins. It’s known for its strong adhesion, durability, and resistance to moisture, chemicals, and corrosion. This coating is typically used as a base layer to prepare surfaces, particularly metal and concrete, for further painting or coating.

Where are epoxy primers applied?

Epoxy primers are applied on various surfaces, including metal, concrete, fiberglass, and wood. They are widely used in automotive, marine, and industrial sectors for corrosion resistance and surface preparation before painting. Their strong adhesion makes them ideal for environments that require durability, such as in automotive undercoating and industrial machinery.

How many coats of epoxy primer?

The recommended number of epoxy primer coats typically ranges from one to two, depending on the project’s requirements and the primer’s specifications. The first coat ensures good adhesion to the surface and coverage of imperfections, while a second coat can enhance thickness and protection. Always refer to the manufacturer’s guidelines for optimal results.

Can you put a base coat over epoxy?
Yes, you can apply a base coat over epoxy primer. Epoxy primer provides a strong, durable, and smooth surface that is ideal for the adhesion of base coats. However, it’s important to ensure that the epoxy primer is fully cured and properly prepared before applying the base coat.
How long does epoxy primer take to dry cure?
Generally, epoxy primer can take anywhere from a few hours to overnight to dry to the touch. For full curing, it might require 24 to 72 hours. It’s important to refer to the manufacturer’s instructions for the specific epoxy primer being used, as different products may have different drying and curing times.
